METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK
- A man is usually a large area network in a city or large campus
- Large geographical area than LAN
- Owned by a single organization usually will be owned by many individuals
- A high-speed network over in a city
- Covers area of 5 - 50km
Eg: Telephone company, isp's, cable tv network.
WIDE AREA NETWORK
- Wan covers a large geographical area such as a country, the whole world, etc......
- Wan is two or more LAN connected together
- high-speed phone links wireless satellite
- Multiple LAN can be connected as BRIDGE, SWITCH, ROUTER, GATEWAY .....
- Eg: Internet
CAMPUS AREA NETWORK
- Multiple LAN is interconnected in a geographical area
- CAN is smaller than WAN/MAN
- Also called as co-operate area network
STORAGE AREA NETWORK
SAN is a specialized high-speed network that provides block-level network access to storage SAN is typically composed of host, switch, storage elements, storage devices that are interconnected using a variety of topology and protocols and technologies
This enables each server to access shared storage as if it is driven directly attached to the server When a host wants to access a storage device on SAN it sends out a block-based access request for the storage device.
